Like many women, I've felt guilty about my slipshod breast exams for years. So it was with a certain amount of relief that I read a new analysis confirming that the breast self-exam (or BSE) truly doesn't make much of a difference after all.

    I am a 2 time survivor!

In '94, i was diagnoised w/breast cancer. Since age 32, i had been closely monitored by my GYN. This included all available testing. ( due to family hist.) I discovered a lump while in the shower. After many surgeries, i was told , i had stages 3&4, for 9-10 yrs!!!!! obviously, this was a slow moving cancer. However, what if it wasn't? What if i hadn't made myself familiar with my body?

In 2000, again, discovered a mass. I got in to rpci right away . I was EXIMINED & given a clean bill of health!

I discussed my misgivings with a friend &(nurse), who examined me . It was upon her advice that i sought out another opinion. Six weeks later, I had a mastectomy.

PlEASE don't toss the baby out with the bathwater!! If i has not taken an active role with my own health, i would not be here! SBE saved my life TWICE!!! After all nobody knows our own bodies better than we do!!
